SURGICAL GASTROENTEROLOGY ALSO

Surgical Gastroenterology pertains to diseases afflicting the Digestive system. Organ systems involved include the Liver, Bile ducts, Gallbladder, Pancreas and the Luminal digestive system (Esophagus, Stomach, duodenum, small and large intestine, colon and rectum).



GASTROINTESTINAL ONCOSURGERY


Oncology including tumors or cancers affecting any of the above systems is an inherent component of the Surgical Gastroenterology and constitutes approximately 70% of surgeries performed in this field. Combined/Multimodality therapy is the key in cancer treatment wherein the surgeon is part of a team comprising medical oncologist, radiation oncologist, and interventional radiologist at various stages of diagnosis, decision making, treatment and follow up.
