Learning your child may need a liver transplant can be overwhelming. Our Liver Transplant Program provides you and your child with exceptional care throughout the transplant process, from initial consultation to post-transplant monitoring. Our experienced team is here to answer your questions and support your family during each step of the transplant journey.
We will schedule your child for an initial consultation with our transplant hepatologist.
This initial visit helps us determine the severity of your child’s liver disease and whether a transplant is needed.
We will get to know you and your child, and you will get to know us.
The pre-transplant evaluation enables the transplant team and other specialists to perform a complete assessment on your child to determine if liver transplant is the best option. This pre-transplant evaluation takes about two to three days. It will include clinic visits, blood work, and other diagnostic testing.
Children receiving a liver transplant will receive follow-up care throughout their lifetime.
Studies show that when families work closely with the post-transplant medical team, children have fewer complications and experience better outcomes.
Once a liver becomes available, we will contact your family to come to the hospital. Just remember that children receiving liver transplants are leading longer and healthier lives because of advances in surgical techniques, immunosuppression, and other aspects of your child’s pre- and post-transplant care.
